Evolution of the condom

Condoms are no longer a sad looking “rubber”. The past few decades have been quite revolutionary for condoms . Once upon a time, condoms used to be bland and boring latex used for contraception . Now condoms have come of age. The market is flooded with choices in material, shape, color, size and texture.

Talking of texturing in condoms, various surfaces are created on a condom, aiming to ensure extra stimulation and higher sensitivity for both partners during intercourse. Ribs or studs, deeper or raised, thin or thicker; textured condoms are specially designed to increase sexual stimulation. There can even be a mix of dots, ridges, and ribs altogether in one. The texturing can be either on one or both sides of the condom to exert stimulation for both partners.

Different types of condoms

Ribbed Condoms: These have little molded ridges or ribs running down on the outside of condom, providing the right kind of stimulation.

Dotted Condom: This type has several dots or studs over the condom and promise extra sensation. This special texturing allows greater pleasure for a longer time.

The little downside with studded condoms is that due to large number of bumps on the surface and constant friction, some women experience mild irritation during vaginal intercourse. Also, dotted or studded condoms should be avoided while having anal intercourse as they can irritate and might tear the walls of the anus.

Multi Textured Condoms: For maximum enhancement of pleasure, ribs and dots are combined together in one condom and distributed across the length of the rubber.

Smooth Condoms: These are designed for comfort and safety. They are in demand for providing natural sensation.

Ultra Thin Condoms: These are made of extremely thin sheath of latex. Thin condoms help in maximizing the sensation and improving performance during sex. If not handled properly while wearing, thin condoms hold a greater chance of tearing. Therefore, extra care should be taken while wearing them.

Choosing from the wide verity is a matter of one’s own preferences. One has to experiment a lot before settling for what suits them best.
